Mauricio  has participated in the making of a number of books, either as illustrator,  author, or both. Here follows a list of some of the more relevant titles,  listed by publication date.

 

THE BIG  CATS AND THEIR FOSSIL RELATIVES

This is the  definitive work on the evolution of cats, including well over a hundred  drawings and 16 colour paintings depicting the fossil and living felids of the  world.

MEMORIA DE LA TIERRA
  Jordi Agustí and Mauricio Antón
  Ediciones  del Serbal, 1997.
In this  book, Jordi Agustí and Mauricio collaborated to bring together a summary of the  evolution of vertebrates in the Iberian peninsula. The book includes many  colour paintings of fossil vertebrates in their environments, as well as pencil  drawings of particular animals.

Mauricio  contributed to this volume over 50 pencil illustrations, which are the result  of an extensive research on the anatomy of fossil hominids and other primates.

Besides the  cover art, Mauricio contributed to this book the text and illustrations of a  chapter about the reconstruction of fossil carnivores.

PATRIMONIO PALEONTOLÓGICO DE LA COMUNIDAD DE MADRID.

  Comunidad  de Madrid, 2000.
For this  book Mauricio wrote, in collaboration with Jorge Morales, a chapter about the  paleo-ecology of the Batallones fossil site, apart form contributing many  illustrations including the cover artwork.

ATAPUERCA, NUESTROS ANTECESORES.

  Junta de Castilla y León, 1999.
This book was  conceived as an accompanying volume to the travelling exhibit of the same  title, which opened in Madrid in 1999. Mauricio contributed an illustrated  chapter about the first reconstruction ever done of Homo antecessor, as well as abundant artwork which also appeared in  the exhibit.

Mammoths, Sabertooths and Hominids

In this  book, long-time collaborator and friend Jordi Agustí (author of 'Memoria de la  Tierra') and Mauricio present an overview of 65 million years of mammalian  evolution in the European continent. It includes dozens of pencil drawings  showing the anatomy and action of fossil mammals, and 16 colour paintings.

Lothagam: The Dawn of humanitiy in eastern africa.

This volume  offers the definitive study of the rich vertebrate fauna from this exceptional  late Miocene site in Kenya, and its environemntal and geological context. For  this volume Mauricio prepared restorations of the most relevant mammal species  (and a few crocodiles too), and some environmental reconstructions, working in  close consultation with the authors of the individual chapters.

This title  offers an authoritative presentation of the evolution of hominids with emphasis  on the importance of development. It includes many pencil drawings and a few  colour illustrations.

EVOLVING EDEN

This book  offers an overview of the evolution of mammals in Africa during the Tertiary, against the  background of changing climate and environments. The evolution of our own  hominid lineage is treated as an integral part of mammalian evolution in Africa. A large collection of pencil  drawings, plus colour illustrations and photographs, provide an extensive  visual experience of African mammals past and present.

NATIONAL  GEOGRAPHIC BOOK OF PREHISTORIC MAMMALS

This book  provides an accessible account of the evolution of mammals, with dozens of  colour illustrations. Produced by Firecrest books, this title has been translated  to over a dozen different languages.

EL SECRETO DE LOS FÓSILES

In this  volume, Mauricio offers an accesible account of his working methods, briefly  reviewing the history of paleoart, and illustrating with examples the various  aspects of reconstruction.
